West Fraser reduces production output across North America

September 9, 2021  By  Ellen Cools

West Fraser announced today that it is reducing its output at its B.C. SPF, U.S. South SPF, North American OSB and Canadian plywood facilities by five to 10 per cent of available capacity in the first two months of Q3 2021.

The company says the change is because of wildfires in B.C., slowing orders for forest products, constraints on the availability of resins used to manufacture panel products, transportation interruptions and overall inventory levels.

West Fraser has correspondingly reduced operating schedules at multiple locations and anticipates reducing rates in the rest of Q3, depending on inventory levels, economic log supply, fire and other weather conditions, the impact of COVID-19 on labour availability, raw material availability, transportation resources and customer needs.
